Shadow Screen

We had many ideas on how to create the shadow screen, our first being based off puppet show scenes. We wanted to build a whole frame out of timber, however after a conversation with my Dad (Andrew James) we figured a better way to do it would be to hang the screen from the rig in the theatre weighed down to make it taught. However after making this our plan we spoke to Dan Fox the theatre technician in college  about our ideas on how to create the screen.

Here are the notes on meeting with Dan Fox (on how to set the stage and make the shadow screen work):

- Add wings to both sides made out of boards (8ft tall).

- Get material that is min 8ft (height) 10ft (length) but preferably 12ft (length).

- 'Doughtys' - fabric shop.

- Talk to tutors down in textiles (in college) about them sourcing the material. Namely, Nancy Nicklin and Becky Roberts.

- Rope to hold top taught (if needed). 

- For lighting, experiment with shadow clarity with the lights and screen (after Easter?) - decided April 29th experiment day.

We have now spoken to textiles and during our meeting with Nancy and Becky we have found cotton or poly-cotton to be the best types of fabric for the job, however they can not supply it due to delivery times, it would take 3 weeks to be delivered and they were planning an order for the week of the 18th of April, so it would arrive to late for our experiment date with Dan Fox. Becky then called Doughtys the fabric shop in Hereford for us to see if they had the correct size fabric in stock, and they did. So on the 12th of April, I called them again to ensure it was still in stock and headed to the shop with my peers Dan and Bluebell to go and buy it. It was £6 a metre so our total was £24 and now we have our fabric ready for the experiment with Dan Fox on 29/04/22.
